Your wedding won’t only feature you and your beloved. The entire wedding party will be on display. Clearly, this must be a special assemblage to hold such a high profile position on your spotlight day. Not to mention they work they do behind the scenes — sometime beginning months in advance — to prepare for the wedding and reception and other associated events. If you aren’t sure who is typically included in the wedding party, this blog post will provide some helpful basic details.
A girl needs her support system during the wedding planning and the big day itself. This group is typically made up of close friends of the bride, and siblings of the bride and/or groom. The selection is usually up to the bride and making it can be a challenging task.
A bridesmaid is a young woman who serves as an attendant of the bride during a wedding ceremony. Bridesmaids are members of the bride’s party. In a typical Western wedding ceremony, there is more than one bridesmaid. Brides usually select someone who is very close to her as bridesmaids – sisters, cousins, best friends, etc. Traditionally, bridesmaids were unmarried young women.
Bridesmaids are only required to attend the wedding and assist the bride on the day of the wedding. Sometimes, they may be asked to help with planning the wedding and reception. In modern times, bridesmaids also attend other wedding-related events like wedding rehearsal, bachelorette party or bridal shower. Read more from Pediaa

Similar to the connections bridesmaids share with the bride, groomsmen are nearly always part of the groom’s regular posse. They also have major responsibilities to handle and are supposed to have the groom’s back.
Groomsmen are individuals selected by the groom to serve as assistants to the groom. Just as brides have their bridesmaids and of course they have the maid of honor, a groom needs his groomsmen, and he will most likely have someone designated as his best man. Groomsmen are usually a close relative or friend of the groom. It might be their father, brother, cousin, or best mate.

While less common than bridesmaids and groomsmen, flower girls are still very popular in traditional weddings. Except for rare cases, they are the youngest part of the wedding party. They are typically adorable angels who precede the bride as she walks down the aisle. The flower girl is supposed to be a young representation of the bride, recalling when this day was only real in her dreams. There can be one or multiple flower girls in the ceremony at the bride and groom’s discretion.
The flower girl is one of the youngest members of the bridal party (along with the ring bearer or page boy, if you’re having one). Flower girls are typically somewhere between 4 and 8 years of age, though there are exceptions to this – there’s nothing cuter than a baby flower girl being pulled down the aisle in a little wagon!
Being so young, flower girls don’t have any particularly important responsibilities, unlike older bridesmaids. Their main duty – let’s face it – is to look absolutely adorable, and enjoy their moment in the spotlight as they walk down the aisle ahead of the bride. Read more from bride and groom direct
If you’d rather not deal with the mercurial nature of a child, you can nix the flower girl, just remember that you’ll be giving up a whole lost of “aaawww” factor. Be sure the trade-off is worth it.
